At Williamstown Family Dental Group, we believe that it is never too early to visit the dentist and suggest that the latest that a child should first visit would be 3 years old. When our patients present for their own check-up, they often bring along their new bundles of joy and it is at that point that we will begin to provide useful information on caring for their child’s teeth and gums at home and answer any questions. Continuation of bringing the child from baby, to infant, to toddler and then older is an excellent opportunity for the child to get used to our dental practice and get to know any dental procedures that may occur.

Children’s dentistry is mainly about prevention and regular check-ups is used to identify any possible problems early to allow for simple and easy treatment. Our dental team is very gentle and will ensure that the children feel comfortable and relaxed before examining the inside of their mouth. Parents/carers are then informed of anything that arises and treatment options that are required. The children will also be involved in the explanation with the dentists speaking in language that the children will understand; in the hope we can enlist their full cooperation.

Procedures such as teeth cleaning to prevent gum disease and fluoride application and placement of fissure sealants are used to prevent decay by coating the teeth to protect them from bacteria.
